Section 01
Acceptance of Terms
By accessing, browsing, or using FormatOS — including by uploading a file, initiating a conversion, downloading a converted output, or otherwise interacting with the website — you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use the website or its services.
These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and any person who accesses or uses FormatOS, regardless of their location, device, or purpose.
These Terms should be read alongside the Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, and other legal pages published on FormatOS, all of which form part of the agreement between you and FormatOS when using the service.
Section 02
Description of Service
FormatOS provides online tools that allow users to convert files between supported formats. Users may upload a file or provide a direct file link, select a supported output format, and download the converted result.
Some conversions may be processed directly in your browser using browser APIs, meaning the file does not leave your device for those conversions. Others may require temporary server-side processing through installed conversion systems depending on the file type, format, and technical implementation. The processing method varies by conversion type.
Supported file types, output formats, and conversion quality may vary. Not all formats are supported. Some conversions may fail, produce imperfect results, or be unavailable depending on file characteristics, engine support, server availability, or technical limitations inherent to the conversion process.
FormatOS may update, limit, modify, expand, or discontinue supported formats and conversion features at any time without prior notice. The website is a utility tool and not a professional file processing, editing, publishing, or archival service.
Section 03
User Eligibility
You must be legally permitted to use online services under the laws applicable to you. Children under 13 years of age — or under the applicable minimum age in their country or region — should not use FormatOS without appropriate parental or guardian permission.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of FormatOS complies with all laws applicable to you, including laws relating to data protection, privacy, copyright, digital rights, and the handling of digital files and content.
If you are using FormatOS on behalf of a company, organization, institution, or other entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms, and that the entity accepts and agrees to these Terms.
Section 04
User Responsibilities
When using FormatOS, you are responsible for:
- Every file you upload, provide, or convert through the service.
- Ensuring you have the legal right to upload, process, convert, and download every file you submit.
- Reviewing converted output before using it for any professional, academic, legal, financial, official, or business purpose.
- Keeping your own backup copies of original files before uploading or converting them.
- Ensuring converted files meet your needs before discarding the source material.
- Complying with copyright, privacy, data protection, and intellectual property laws applicable to your files and intended use.
- Exercising judgment about which files you upload, particularly for files containing sensitive, private, or confidential information.
Important: You should not upload files containing highly sensitive, confidential, regulated, private, financial, medical, legal, government, business-critical, or legally restricted information unless you understand and accept the risks associated with using an online conversion service for that material.
Section 05
Uploaded Files and User Content
Ownership: You retain ownership of the files you upload. FormatOS does not claim any ownership rights over files, documents, or content submitted for conversion.
Limited licence: By uploading a file, you grant FormatOS a limited, temporary, non-exclusive permission to process that file solely to provide the conversion you requested, operate and maintain the service, troubleshoot technical issues, prevent abuse, improve reliability, and comply with applicable legal obligations. This permission does not extend to any other purpose.
Temporary processing: Uploaded files may be temporarily stored or processed on servers or conversion infrastructure to complete the requested conversion. For browser-based conversions, file data may not leave your device. For server-side conversions, files may be temporarily processed on our servers and should be removed after conversion within a reasonable operational period, subject to technical, security, and service requirements.
File rejection: FormatOS may refuse, reject, block, or remove files that appear to be unsupported, corrupted, too large, suspicious, abusive, harmful, illegal, technically incompatible, or potentially dangerous to the service or its users. Rejection may occur without prior notice.
Technical limits: FormatOS may apply limits to file size, file type, conversion frequency, processing time, output availability, or download duration. These limits may change at any time and are necessary to maintain a reliable, fair, and accessible service.
Section 06
Prohibited Uses
You must not use FormatOS for any of the following purposes:
- Uploading, converting, or distributing content that is illegal under any applicable law.
- Uploading files containing malware, viruses, spyware, ransomware, trojans, exploits, harmful code, or content designed to attack or damage systems or users.
- Violating copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, database, or other intellectual property rights.
- Converting files you do not own, are not licensed to use, or are not legally permitted to process.
- Bypassing digital rights management (DRM), paywalls, platform restrictions, access controls, or copyright or licensing protections.
- Uploading, converting, or distributing sexually exploitative, abusive, harassing, hateful, threatening, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful material.
- Distributing stolen, leaked, pirated, unlicensed, or otherwise unauthorized digital content.
- Attempting to overload, scrape, attack, spam, reverse engineer, exploit, or disrupt the FormatOS service, servers, or infrastructure.
- Using automated bots, scripts, crawlers, or bulk conversion systems in a way that places unreasonable or harmful load on the service.
- Misrepresenting your identity, impersonating another person or organization, or falsely claiming authorization.
- Using FormatOS for unlawful commercial exploitation, unauthorized resale of conversion outputs, or systematic data extraction.
- Using the service in violation of applicable laws, regulations, or the rights of third parties.
Violation of these prohibitions may result in immediate termination of access, reporting to relevant authorities, or legal action where appropriate.
Section 07
Copyright and Intellectual Property
You must only upload and convert files that you have created, own, hold appropriate licences for, or are otherwise legally authorized to process.
FormatOS respects intellectual property rights and expects its users to do the same. The service must not be used to infringe copyright or to convert, reproduce, store, distribute, or otherwise exploit protected material without the rights holder's permission.
Converting a file does not remove, transfer, or modify any copyright or intellectual property restrictions that apply to it. A converted output remains subject to the same rights, restrictions, and obligations as the original file.
You are solely responsible for determining whether you have the legal right to convert, store, share, publish, use, or distribute any file you submit through FormatOS. FormatOS is a technical conversion utility and does not provide legal advice or authorization for any particular use of a file or converted output.
FormatOS may, at its discretion, remove, restrict, block, or refuse content or access that appears to infringe third-party rights, violate these Terms, or breach applicable laws. If you believe that activity connected to FormatOS infringes your intellectual property rights, please contact us through the Contact page.
Section 08
Conversion Accuracy and Output Limitations
File conversion is a technical process and results may not always be complete, perfect, or identical to the original. FormatOS aims to produce useful output, but does not guarantee that conversion results will be accurate, complete, correctly formatted, or suitable for any specific purpose.
Output quality may be affected by the original file's quality, structure, encoding, compression, fonts, metadata, embedded content, file size, format-specific limitations, browser or server capabilities, or technical constraints inherent to converting between particular formats.
The following elements may change, degrade, be missing, or behave differently in a converted file:
- Formatting and page layout
- Colors and image quality
- Fonts and typography
- Embedded elements
- Audio and video quality
- Transparency and layers
- Document structure
- Metadata and file properties
- Formulas and calculations
- Animations and transitions
- Subtitles and captions
- Interactive elements
Some files may fail to convert entirely. Some converted outputs may not open correctly in all applications or on all devices. You should always review converted files before relying on them for any professional, academic, legal, financial, official, or business purpose.
FormatOS is not responsible for losses, damages, errors, or decisions arising from inaccurate, incomplete, failed, delayed, corrupted, or incompatible conversion output. See the Disclaimer for further detail on output accuracy limitations.
Section 09
File Backups
You should always keep a backup copy of your original file before uploading it for conversion. FormatOS is a file conversion tool, not a file storage, archival, or backup service.
Uploaded files and converted outputs may only be available temporarily. FormatOS is not responsible for lost, deleted, expired, unavailable, overwritten, or corrupted files or conversion results, regardless of the reason for their loss.
You should download and verify your converted file as soon as it is available. Converted outputs should not be assumed to remain accessible indefinitely after processing is complete.
Section 10
Service Availability
FormatOS does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, secure, permanent, or unlimited availability of the service. The website may be updated, interrupted, limited, paused, or discontinued at any time with or without prior notice.
Service availability may depend on your browser, device, internet connection, server status, file size and type, conversion engine availability, third-party infrastructure, and other technical factors outside FormatOS's direct control.
FormatOS may introduce usage limits, rate limits, file size restrictions, maintenance windows, feature changes, or conversion restrictions at any time. These measures help maintain a fair, reliable, and accessible service for all users.
Section 11
Third-Party Services
FormatOS may use third-party services to operate, deliver, and improve the platform. These providers may process limited technical or usage information as necessary to fulfill their function. Categories of third-party services used may include:
- Web hosting and server infrastructure
- Analytics and performance monitoring
- Security, abuse detection, and bot protection
- File conversion engines and processing tools
- Advertising and ad measurement partners
- Contact form and email communication tools
- Content delivery and caching services
Each third-party service operates under its own terms, privacy policy, and data practices. FormatOS is not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, terms, privacy practices, or behavior of third-party services or websites. You should review third-party terms and policies when interacting with external services linked to or integrated with FormatOS.
Section 12
Advertising and Monetization
FormatOS may display advertisements served through third-party advertising partners or advertising networks. Advertising helps support the continued operation, maintenance, and improvement of the free-to-use file conversion service.
Third-party advertising partners may use cookies, pixels, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve, personalize, measure, and improve advertisements. These partners may collect limited technical and usage information, including browser type, device type, IP address, pages viewed, approximate location, and interactions with advertisements. This data is collected and used in accordance with the advertising partner's own privacy and cookie policies.
FormatOS does not control every advertisement served by third-party advertising systems. The appearance of an advertisement on FormatOS does not constitute a personal endorsement by FormatOS of the advertised product, service, claim, or company. You should independently review advertised products or services before making decisions.
Displaying advertising does not mean FormatOS sells uploaded files, user documents, or personal information to advertisers. Files you upload are used only to provide the conversion you requested.
You can manage advertising-related cookie preferences through your browser settings or available opt-out tools. See the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for more details.
Section 13

For important files, documents, or decisions, you should consult qualified professionals and use appropriate professional-grade software.
You use FormatOS at your own risk. You are responsible for determining whether this service is appropriate for your files, use case, device, workflow, professional requirements, and legal obligations.

These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory under which a claim is made. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations on liability, so some of the above may not apply to you depending on your location.
Section 15

- Content or activity appears to infringe copyright or third-party rights.
- Legal, regulatory, or security concerns require protective action.
- The service needs protection from misuse, bot traffic, technical harm, or abuse.
Termination or restriction of access does not limit any other legal rights or remedies available to FormatOS.
Section 17
Changes to These Terms
FormatOS may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes in the service, legal requirements, or operational practices. When changes are made, the "Last updated" date shown at the top of this page will be revised.
Your continued use of FormatOS after a revised version of these Terms is published constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to updated Terms, you should stop using the service.
We encourage you to review this page periodically, particularly if you regularly upload files or use the conversion tools for important work. Material changes may be highlighted on the site where appropriate.
Section 18
Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by applicable laws, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Depending on your location, additional consumer protection, privacy, data protection, or other legal rights may apply to you under local legislation.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable consumer protection or privacy laws in your jurisdiction.
